December 4th, 2019

The Montgomery County Foundation, Inc. honored Nanette and Kary LaFors, founders of Advocates Against Hunger, with its 2019 Critical Impact Award for their efforts to make a positive and meaningful difference in the community.

 

October 10th, 2019
Advocates Against Hunger hosted and cosponsored the kickoff conference for the Montgomery County Interfaith Coalition. Other cosponsors are The Montgomery County Foundation, Inc, the County Health and Human Services, and Lower Providence Presbyterian Church.

 

February 8th, 2019
Advocates Against Hunger hosted a Peer Learning Circle for the Montco Anti-Hunger Network. Attendees included pantry managers, local pastors, hospital representatives, school board members and district staff, teachers, Philabundance, Share Food Program and other organizations supporting the emergency food system. This was an exciting morning for the 65 attendees to interact and share ideas for partnership. The event proposed ways to increase the participation of clients in managing food pantries, increasing food given to children to take home from school (Backpack Program), improving access to healthy foods for people with special dietary needs, coordinating USDA food arriving through the new federal Tariff Mitigation program and getting free produce from Philabundance to preschool families.

 

Ongoing Events:

 

The Rotary Club of Norristown, CADCOM, Montco Hunger Solutions, and an anonymous donor have funded Fresh Produce Markets. On average, these markets serve 250 families using 55 volunteers from 13 different organizations. Einstein Hospital provides health and nutrition education at the distributions.
