Advocates Against Hunger hosted a conference for the Montco Anti-Hunger Network (MAHN) on 8 February. This was a countywide “Peer Learning” event held in Eagleville at Lower Providence Presbyterian Church. Attendees included pantry managers, local pastors, hospital representatives, school board members and district staff, teachers, Philabundance, Share Food Program and other organizations supporting the emergency food system.
This was an exciting morning for the 65 attendees to interact, share ideas for partnership and improving the distribution of nutritious food to our families in need. The event proposed ways to increase the participation of clients in managing food pantries, increasing food given to children to take home from school (Backpack Program), improving access to healthy foods for people with special dietary needs, coordinating USDA food arriving through the new federal Tariff Mitigation program and getting free produce from Philabundance to pre-school families.
The Rotary Club of Norristown, CADCOM and an Anonymous donor have funded Fifteen Fresh Produce Markets, each serving over 250 pantry eligable families.
